Julia Morton-Marr is an alumna of the University of South Australia, where she earned her Bachelor of Education and Diploma of Teaching. During her studies, she worked with John Braendler in the field of Geography of Tourism, Recreation and Leisure.
She later became the Founding President of the International Holistic Tourism Education Centre (IHTEC).
After moving to Canada in the early 1990s, Julia developed the International School Peace Gardens (ISPG), an initiative grounded in integrated studies and a multidisciplinary approach to education.
ISPG began in 1992–93 in partnership with Eric Foster, Principal of West Humber Collegiate Institute in Etobicoke, Ontario. His school became the first Environmental School in Canada and served as the foundation site for the ISPG program. Eric Foster later became a board member of IHTEC.
Chuck Hopkins, Managing Director of the Dearness Environmental Society, also worked closely with Eric Foster during this time and served as an ex-officio member of the IHTEC board.
IHTEC was founded on the belief that the growing number of critical, human-made global challenges requires a fundamentally different, systemic, and long-term approach to education curricula for the 21st century.
